What is the biggest reason so many of us fail to get started? There are so many different reasons, or probably a better word for that are excuses. We can convince ourselves of so many reasons why we can't get better. One reoccurring statement I hear from many people and one I used to use myself was "I don't know where to start."

We all want the conditions to be perfect. We want to have all the knowledge possible before we take the risk. The weather has to be perfect for us to go out and run for the first time. We have to feel good before we will go lift the weights. We need to have plenty of money before we will take the risk of starting a new business venture. We want it to feel right before we decide to make big changes.

So, let's pretend for a moment you have the perfect conditions to get started. What is stopping you then? I am going to take a guess and say it's that you do not have a clue where to begin. Guess what? No one does. Many successful people you know who you consider experts in their field started with very little knowledge. They immersed themselves in the thing they wanted to do. They failed numerous times. Over time, they gained knowledge and experience. Then, what seems like all of a sudden to those outside looking in, this person is someone with the expertise and the skill to master their craft.

Now, let's step back into reality. That perfect moment to get started is not coming. The right time to start wasn't 3 years ago and it's not 3 years from now. The right time to start is right now. I know you don't know where to start. I know it feels overwhelming. It's time to take a risk and get started. Start learning. Start failing. This is the only way you will ever get better. This is the only way you make progress. Stop letting you hold yourself back.
